Why is it all the rage to wear Tiffany's style silver dog tag, dog chain style bracelets etc?

It looks like you are wearing a dog check aound your wrist and/or neck. I don't get it....its not as if the movie stars are sporting these dog chains????
because Tiffany's' jewelery is unequivocally beautiful no matter if you are wearing a diamond chain or a dog tag.
